Good nutrition is critical for healthy hair growth. Eating dark leafy greens and fruits will put you on the best possible track to have a healthy head of hair growing from your scalp. Sometimes it is hard to get your full serving of fruit and veggies for the day, and smoothies have helped make that task a lot easier. A good hair growth smoothie will supply some or all of the following nutrients: Iron, Vitamin C, Protein, Niacin, Zinc and Biotin for hair growth. Good smoothies for healthy hair will be made with dark leafy greens, berries, nuts like walnuts or almonds, avocados and flax seeds.
#1 Sweet Potato Smoothie
The secret is the in the large vitamin A content of sweet potato. These bright orange tubers are full of vitamin A – 231% per 60 g (i.e., a small sweet potato) – which is more than that in either carrots or kale. Vitamin A is reported to “improve the scalp skin condition and promote hair growth, in terms of the keratinization of skin and hair.”
Ingredients:
- 1 medium size banana
- 1 small sweet potato (cooked)
- 5 raw and shelled almonds
- 2 cups almond milk (or more for desired consistency)
#2 Banana Berries
Blueberries, cranberries, strawberries, and blackberries are all packed with more antioxidants than most other foods. Phytonutrients, which make up much of this antioxidant capacity, can provide a level of dietary UV protection for the skin and scalp. Antioxidants may also play an important role in cell repair (from damage due to oxidation and stress), which translates into rejuvenated scalp and healthy follicles. Banana is one of the fruits with the highest content of biotin. Walnuts are a great option to include as they contain vitamin E and healthy fats.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup baby spinach
- 1 ripe banana.
- 1 cup of mixed strawberries, blueberries, blackberries.
- 1 Tbsp. chia seeds
- 150 ml (5 ounces) of water or almond milk.
#3 Carrot Avocado
Vitamin A, found mainly in orange and green colored foods, helps to regenerate tissues and fight the dryness of hair and skin. We recommend this smoothie especially for those with dry hair or skin and those who want to promote the growth of hair and nails. Carrots are rich in vitamin A and also combine nicely into the smoothie thanks to their sweetness. Avocado is one of the most complete fruits, and therefore should not be missing in our diet. Milk is a good source of vitamin A if we digest it well. If not, we can replace it with yogurt or a vegetable drink.
Ingredients:
- 1 peeled and grated carrots.
- 1/2 ripe avocado.
- 1 cup of milk, yogurt or a vegetable drink.
